Overview
Roku 4K players evaluate the connected display’s video capabilities through EDID. When connected through a Just Add Power system, the Roku reads the EDID from the Encoder. To ensure reliable 4K output without artifacts or tearing, configure both the Roku and the Encoder according to the product series used: MaxColor Series, Ultra Series, or Omega Series.
Recommended Settings
The Roku 4K platform works best with the following setup for each Just Add Power product series.
MaxColor Series
- Recommended Roku Resolution: 4K60 SDR
- HDR Support: SDR or HDR10
- HDMI Output: YCbCr 4:2:2 recommended
- Audio: Stereo or Multichannel
Ultra Series
- Recommended Roku Resolution: 4K60 SDR
- HDR Support: Not supported
- HDMI Output: RGB or YCbCr
- Audio: Stereo or Multichannel
Omega Series
- Recommended Roku Resolution: 1080p60 SDR
(Omega does not support 4K.) - HDR Support: Not supported
- HDMI Output: RGB or YCbCr
- Audio: Stereo or Multichannel
Roku Menu
- Go to Settings → Display Type.
- Select the recommended resolution for your Just Add Power product:
- MaxColor Series: 4K60 SDR
- Ultra Series: 4K60 SDR
- Omega Series: 1080p60 SDR
- Go to Settings → Audio and select:
- Stereo or Dolby Digital
Set Encoder EDID
Use the steps below to configure EDID on the Encoder attached to the Roku player. Each product series includes the recommended EDID settings.
- Log into the web interface of the Encoder connected to the Roku.
- If the interface cannot be accessed, configure a route using: so your PC can reach the Just Add Power devices.
- Open the Video tab and scroll to EDID Settings.
- Recommended EDID Settings by Product:
- MaxColor Series
- Startup EDID: Built In
- Maximum Video Resolution: 4K60
- Maximum Audio Format: Stereo or Multichannel
- Ultra Series
- Startup EDID: Built In
- Maximum Video Resolution: 4K60
- Maximum Audio Format: Stereo or Multichannel
- Omega Series
- Startup EDID: Built In
- Maximum Video Resolution: 1080p60
- Maximum Audio Format: Stereo or Multichannel
- MaxColor Series
- Click Apply.
- The video may briefly drop while the updated EDID is applied. If the Roku does not adjust automatically, power-cycle it to force a new EDID read.
Encoder Adjustment (Only if Tearing at 4K60)
If you see tearing or artifacts at 4K60 on an Ultra Series Encoder, apply the following adjustment.
- Open the Encoder’s web interface.
- Press
CTRL + ALT + ENTERto open the CLI. - Enter these commands in order:
astparam s ast_video_quality_mode 3 astparam save reboot - The Encoder will reboot and apply the change.
Important: Only apply this adjustment if tearing occurs at 4K60 on Ultra Series. MaxColor and Omega do not require this change.
Quick Tips
- Verify that Roku has selected the correct resolution after configuration.
- If issues persist, power-cycle in this order: Roku → Encoder → Decoder → Display.
- Ensure the HDMI cable between the Roku and Encoder supports 4K60 when applicable.
Result: With the recommended Roku, EDID, and Encoder settings, Roku 4K players deliver smooth, stable video and reliable audio across all Just Add Power series.
