Overview

Apple TV devices expect specific video capabilities to be advertised by the display’s EDID. When connected through a Just Add Power system, the Apple TV reads the EDID from the Encoder. To ensure correct video output, the Encoder’s EDID settings must be configured according to the product series used: MaxColor Series, Ultra Series, or Omega Series.

Recommended Settings

The following recommendations provide optimal compatibility and consistent playback behavior across all Just Add Power platforms.

MaxColor Series

  • Video Resolution: 4K60 SDR or 4K60 HDR10
  • Match Content:
    • Match Dynamic Range: On (recommended for HDR content)
    • Match Frame Rate: On (MaxColor handles frame-rate changes smoothly)
  • HDMI Output: YCbCr 4:2:2 or RGB High
  • Audio: Stereo or Multichannel

Ultra Series

  • Video Resolution: 4K30 SDR
  • Match Content:
    • Match Dynamic Range: On
    • Match Frame Rate: Off
  • HDMI Output: RGB High
  • Audio: Stereo or Multichannel

Omega Series

  • Video Resolution: 1080p60 SDR
  • Match Content:
    • Match Dynamic Range: Off (Omega does not support HDR)
    • Match Frame Rate: Off
  • HDMI Output: RGB High or YCbCr
  • Audio: Stereo or Multichannel

Apple TV Menu

  1. Install the latest available tvOS update on the Apple TV.
  2. Select the recommended resolution for your Just Add Power product under Settings → Video and Audio → Format:
    • MaxColor Series: 4K60 SDR or 4K60 HDR
    • Ultra Series: 4K30 SDR
    • Omega Series: 1080p60 SDR
  3. Open Settings → Video and Audio → Content Match.
  4. Set Match Dynamic Range:
    • MaxColor Series: On
    • Ultra Series: On
    • Omega Series: Off
  5. Set Match Frame Rate:
    • MaxColor Series: On
    • Ultra Series: Off
    • Omega Series: Off

Set Encoder EDID

Use the steps below to configure EDID on the Encoder attached to the Apple TV. Each product series includes its recommended selections.

  1. Log into the web interface of the Encoder connected to the Apple TV.
  2. Open the Video tab and scroll to EDID Settings.
  3. Recommended EDID Settings by Product:
    • MaxColor Series
      • Startup EDID: Built In
      • Maximum Video Resolution: 4K60
      • Maximum Audio Format: Stereo or Multichannel
    • Ultra Series
      • Startup EDID: Built In
      • Maximum Video Resolution: 4K30
      • Maximum Audio Format: Stereo or Multichannel
    • Omega Series
      • Startup EDID: Built In
      • Maximum Video Resolution: 1080p60
      • Maximum Audio Format: Stereo or Multichannel
  4. Click Apply.
  5. The video may briefly drop while the updated EDID is applied. If the Apple TV does not adjust automatically, power-cycle it to force a new EDID read.

If these settings do not produce the desired video output, continue to the Set Custom EDID section.
