Overview

AVP Transmitters are the only models that process and convert audio in a Just Add Power system. AVP Transmitters will accept stereo audio or Dolby® Digital 5.1, but no higher-level audio formats. These model numbers are AVP Transmitters:

  • 718AVP
  • 718WP4
  • 749AVP
  • 718KVM + DSPKIT
  • 749KVM + DSPKIT

Audio Processing

When an AVP Transmitter receives a Dolby Digital 5.1 audio signal, the audio signal is encoded to 2-channel audio using the Dolby Pro Logic II® codec.

  • A stereo-capable display will get stereo audio from the Receiver.
  • A Dolby Surround-capable AVR will get stereo audio. Set the AVR to Dolby Surround to tell it to use Dolby Pro Logic II to decode the signal and provide 5.1 discrete channels: Left, Right, Center, Left Surround, Right Surround, and LFE.

Planning Considerations

An AVP Transmitter is ideal in these circumstances:

  • A source outputting Dolby Digital 5.1 - cable, satellite, streaming device - that needs to be distributed to stereo and surround zones simultaneously
  • A source outputting stereo or Dolby Digital 5.1 that needs to be fed into an analog audio distribution system

For information on the different ways that Just Add Power Transmitters handle audio for planning purposes, please see the Transmitter Audio Planning article.
