Overview

USB Hotkey is a feature of the MaxColor series that enables a USB keyboard or mouse connected to a MaxColor Decoder - MC-RX2 or MC-USB - to control features of the Just Add Power system. Switch a source, build a video wall, turn a TV on, or change a Tiler layout with a quick keypress.

Activate Hotkey Behavior

Hold the modifier key (Ctrl, Alt, Shift, Meta, none) then double-tap the configured hotkey

For example: hold Alt and double-tap 1 to execute

Number of Hotkeys

  • Up to 8 keyboard hotkeys
  • Up to 2 mouse hotkeys - uses the 'backward' and 'forward' mouse buttons - Mouse4 and Mouse5

Supported Firmware

USB Hotkey support begins at firmware MAX v4.3.0.

Supported Hardware

USB Hotkey is supported on these hardware models:

  • MC-RX2
  • MC-USB Client Mode (Decoder)

Setup USB Hotkeys

  1. Login to the webUI of the MaxColor Decoder
  2. Go to the Comms tab and look for the USB Settings card
  3. Enable the USB Hotkeys Enabled button to reveal hotkey options
  4. Enable Keyboard Hotkey 1 and set the key and modifier(s)
    • Click the Key box to show a keyboard popup to select a key. Capital and lowercase letters are the same. Number row and numpad numbers are DIFFERENT.
    • Select one or more Modifiers. These are keys that must be held when the Key is double-tapped. If selecting multiple Modifiers, ALL Modifiers must be held at the same time.
    • In Action, type the command to be executed when the Hotkey is activated. For multiple commands, link them together by separating them with a semicolon ;. For example: jpsw -r4 -t1;usb connect switches Decoder 4 to watch Encoder 1 and then links the KVM pass-through in a single function.
  5. Repeat Step 4 for each Keyboard Hotkey and Mouse Hotkey
  6. Click Apply at the bottom
  7. Save and Reboot the Decoder
  8. Connect a keyboard or mouse and go!

Example: Use Keyboard to Switch Sources

  1. Set webUI hotkeys on the MaxColor Decoder:
    • Alt + Up Arrow sends switch up
    • Alt + Down Arrow sends switch down
  2. Apply, Save, and Reboot the MaxColor Decoder in the webUI
  3. Connect a keyboard to the MaxColor Decoder
  4. Experience the USB Hotkey behavior
    • Hold Alt and double-tap the Up Arrow to switch to the next Encoder.
    • Hold Alt and double-tap the Down Arrow to switch to the previous Encoder.
