Overview
Just Add Power Encoders and Decoders connect to the network through Ethernet. An Ethernet-to-coax bridge can carry network traffic over existing coaxial cable, but Just Add Power has not validated a coaxial conversion solution for Encoder or Decoder audio/video connections.
Plan for Ethernet cabling: Do not specify a coaxial-to-Ethernet converter as a substitute for a Just Add Power device connection based on its advertised speed alone. Follow the cabling requirements in the Installation Checklist when planning a system.
Why Converter Specifications Are Not Enough
Just Add Power audio/video traffic places sustained demands on a network connection. A converter’s Ethernet port speed or advertised coaxial data rate does not confirm that it will carry that traffic reliably in the intended installation.
Performance depends on the converter, the coaxial cable and its connections, the number of devices sharing the coaxial network, and the traffic passing through it. The converter must also preserve the network behavior required by the system’s Standardized or Alternate Configuration. These factors require evaluation of the specific equipment and topology; they cannot be determined from a speed rating alone.
If Existing Coaxial Cable Must Be Used
Contact Just Add Power Technical Support before designing a system around a coaxial-to-Ethernet converter. Provide the Encoder and Decoder models, switch models, configuration type, coaxial layout, and proposed converter models. Just Add Power has no verified converter recommendation for this application.
