Overview

When using JADConfig to configure your Just Add Power system, it's crucial that all devices are properly detected during the discovery process. If some or all devices are not discovered, follow these steps to ensure a smooth setup.

Pre-Discovery Checklist

Before Running JADConfig, make sure the following conditions are met:

  • HDMI cables are disconnected from all Encoders.

  • Tiling Encoder video is disabled (hold PF1 until the Data light blinks).

  • Correct connections:

    1. Encoders are connected to Encoder ports.

    2. Decoders are connected to Decoder ports.

  • Device status: All Just Add Power devices should have a solid Power light and a blinking Data light.
  • Network Setup:

    • The JADConfig PC must have a wired network connection to port 1 of the switch through:

      1. A larger network that ultimately connects to port 1, or

      2. A direct connection to port 1 of the switch.

If all these conditions are met, device discovery should proceed without issues.

Troubleshooting Steps for Undiscovered Devices

If JADConfig does not detect all devices, perform the following checks:

  1. Verify Software Version

  2. Check Device Indicators

    • Devices can only be discovered if they have a solid Power light and a blinking Data light.

    • If a device does not exhibit this light behavior, power cycle it.

    • If the Data light still does not blink, refer to the Power & Data Lights troubleshooting section for further assistance.

  3. Ensure Proper Network Conditions

    • No other network devices should be connected to the switch, except for the network on port 1.

    • Use a native Windows PC. Mac hardware running Windows may not properly bind network adapters, which can interfere with device discovery.

  4. Firewall & Security Settings

    • Disable any firewall software and explicitly allow JADConfig through the firewall.

    • Be aware that the default Windows firewall may still block programs even when disabled, so manually allowing JADConfig is necessary.

  5. Disable Unused Network Adapters

    • Disable all other network adapters on the JADConfig PC, including those that are not actively connected.

  6. Bypass the Local Network (If Necessary)

    • If devices are still not discovered, bypass the local network by:

      • Closing JADConfig.

      • Connecting the PC’s wired network directly to port 1 of the switch.

      • Re-running JADConfig.

    • Some network security settings may interfere with the discovery process, so direct wiring can help rule out external network issues.

Final Notes

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve most device discovery issues in JADConfig. If problems persist, consult the official Just Add Power troubleshooting documentation or contact support for further assistance.
