Overview

Just Add Power always recommends AMP Standardized systems (VLAN switching) over multicast switching. Netgear switches are supported with Standardized AMP and should allow AMP to configure the switch whenever possible.

This article is intended for situations where VLAN switching is not feasible for the project requirements. Follow the instructions below to configure a Netgear switch for use with Just Add Power Multicast Switching.

Configure Just Add Power devices with AMP software.

Just Add Power devices support Multicast Switching on firmware B1.2.1 and later.

Compatible Models

  • M4250 Series
    • Included profiles were built on XF models with 10Gb ports
    • Multi-switch implementations REQUIRE the XF models for SFP+ ports at 10Gb to connect between switches
    • Just Add Power POE usage is 10 watts per device

Download Configuration Files

Load a pre-built switch configuration file to get up and going quickly!

Configuration files use these defaults:

  • Username: admin
  • Password: netgear1234
  • VLAN 1 IP (data): 192.168.0.239 /24
  • VLAN 2 IP (JP Video): 172.17.255.254 /16
  • Default Gateway (Router): 192.168.0.1
  • OOB Port: 192.168.1.239 /24

Modify Configuration Files

  1. Start with the pre-built Primary switch configuration file.
  2. Change the Default Gateway to the IP address of the router at the jobsite.
  3. Change the VLAN 1 IP to match the subnet that the router and control system at the jobsite are on

Full instructions on exactly how to make these modifications are included with the download.

Network Profiles

Netgear M4250 models provide Network Profiles that simplify the process of configuring for multicast switching. We tested these profiles with Just Add Power and they are all COMPATIBLE

  • Bluestream Multicast
  • Kramer AV
  • Video
  • Video with AES67 audio
  • Video with Dante audio
  • Visionary AV Network

These Network Profiles are NOT COMPATIBLE (along with a reason why, if known)

  • AVoIP Lightware AV network - uses tagged traffic
  • BirdDog AV Network - profile applies mtu 1500. Just Add Power requires mtu 9000 or higher
  • Crestron DigitalMedia AV Network - profile applies mtu 1500. Just Add Power requires mtu 9000 or higher
  • Video with Q-SYS audio - profile applies mtu 1500. Just Add Power requires mtu 9000 or higher
