Overview
In order for a 2G Hybrid device to function with other devices in the system, their firmware version must match.
Below will cover how to gather the information needed to begin, and the steps required to perform a firmware update.
Check Firmware Version
It's important to gather the 2G system's firmware version before attempting any updates, as not all versions of 2G firmware can be updated directly to the latest 2G Hybrid firmware without first requiring an incremental update. If the webUI does not have a firmware version listed, it is lower than A1.2.
Instructions for checking your firmware version can be found here.
Firmware Update Instructions
WARNING! A1.34 and lower require incremental updates.
Proceed only if you are updating a device currently on A1.35 or higher.
Firmware Update with webUI
Download the 2G Hybrid firmware files needed
Follow this link for instructions to access the device.
If the device is a Transmitter, you must> remove the HDMI cable.
The webUI should open to the "System" tab at the top.
Under "System", locate "Update Firmware" and upload the correct .bin file for the device model to begin updating.
See link for a list of models for file matching.
Firmware updates take approximately 8 minutes per device.
Warning! Interrupting the firmware update in anyway, this will cause the unit to fail and must be recovered using Debrick
Firmware Update with JADConfig Software
WARNING! JADConfig is unable to detect firmware versions that pre-date A5.21D
.
If JADConfig fails to detect the firmware version or if you require a device to match the firmware of an established system, download the firmware files needed before beginning and follow the instructions for Firmware Update with webUI
Download the JADConfig Software
Follow this link to gain access the device before you begin.
Follow the instructions for "Connected to Local Data Network or PC"
If the device is a Transmitter, you must remove the HDMI cable before beginning.
Open JADConfig.
Click "Firmware Update Only."
Click "Standalone."
Choose your Ethernet adapter and click Next.
The software will scan for the device and populate its current information.
Select the device and click Next.
Finalize by selecting the desired firmware in the drop down.
Leave "Force Firmware Update" unchecked.
Click Next to begin the update.
Firmware updates take approximately 8 minutes per device.
Warning! Interrupting the firmware update in anyway, this will cause the unit to fail and must be recovered using Debrick
If JADConfig asks, choose "Do Not Change" if requests you to choose 2G or 3G mode for the device.
Incremental Update Instructions
Current Firmware: A1.2 to A1.34
Before you can update the device to the newest firmware, an incremental update - A1.35 - must be loaded first.
Download A1.35 firmware files.
Access the webUI of the device.
Follow the "Firmware Update with webUI" instructions and perform the steps until you reach the webUI of the device.
Upload the appropriate A1.35.bin file.
For Transmitters, the filename is
JAP-2G-TX-A1-35-FIRMWARE.bin
For Receivers, the filename is
JAP-2G-RX-A1-35-FIRMWARE.bin
Wait for the file to finish uploading.
WARNING: If the transfer is interrupted mid-update, the device WILL NOT function. DO NOT interrupt the firmware process once it has begun.
Power cycle the unit.
Unplug power > Wait 5 seconds > Reconnect power.
Access the webUI again to confirm the device is reporting Version A1.35.
Repeat the steps in order to update the device with your desired firmware version.
Current Firmware: Unlisted (Under A1.2)
Before you can update the device to the latest firmware, two incremental updates are required. When accessing the Just Add Power device through the web interface you will encounter a screen that looks like this:
Create a ticket on our website to request the firmware files needed to update a device to A1.2 (Step1) firmware files.
Access the webUI of the device.
Follow the "Firmware Update with webUI" instructions and perform the steps until you reach the webUI of the device.
Upload the appropriate STEP1.bin file.
For Transmitters, the filename is
JAP-2G-TX-STEP1.bin
For Receivers, the filename is
JAP-2G-RX-STEP1.bin
Wait for the file to finish uploading.
WARNING: If the transfer is interrupted mid-update, the device WILL NOT function. DO NOT interrupt the firmware process once it has begun.
Power cycle the unit.
Unplug power > Wait 5 seconds > Reconnect power
Access the webUI again.
NOTE:If you are not using a Chromium browser (EX:Chrome or Firefox), the web page may still show the old firmware version. Re-open the web page in Incognito mode to clear any cache memory.
Upload the appropriate A1.35.bin file.
For Transmitters, the filename is
JAP-2G-TX-A1-35-FIRMWARE.bin
For Receivers, the filename is
JAP-2G-RX-A1-35-FIRMWARE.bin
Wait for the file to finish uploading.
DO NOT interrupt the process once it has begun.
Power cycle the unit.
Unplug power > Wait 5 seconds > Reconnect power
Access the webUI again to confirm the device is reporting Version A1.35.
Repeat the steps once more in order to update the device with your desired firmware version.
DO NOT interrupt the process once it has begun.
