Overview

To ensure proper functionality within a Just Add Power 2G Series system, all devices must be running the same firmware version. This guide outlines how to identify your device's current firmware and perform the necessary updates, including instructions for incremental updates when required.

Check Firmware Version

Before beginning any updates, it's critical to confirm your device’s current firmware version. Not all firmware versions can be updated directly to the latest release, some require intermediate updates.

• If the webUI does not display a firmware version, the device is running a version older than A1.2.

Firmware Update Instructions

Important: Devices running A1.34 or lower require incremental updates.

Proceed only if your device is currently on A1.35 or higher, unless following the incremental update instructions below.

Option 1: Firmware Update Using webUI

1. Download the correct 2G Series firmware files needed for your device.

2. Access the device via webUI

3. If updating a Encoder, remove the HDMI cable before proceeding.

4. Once logged in, the webUI should open to the System tab.

5. Locate the Update Firmware section and upload the corresponding .bin file for your model.

   • Refer to this list to match firmware files to your model.

6. The update will begin.

   • Duration: Approximately 8 minutes per device.

   • Do not interrupt the process. An interrupted update will render the device inoperable and require Debrick recovery.

Option 2: Firmware Update Using JADConfig Software

Note: JADConfig cannot detect firmware versions older than A5.21D.

If the device version is not detected, use the webUI update method instead.

1. Download and install JADConfig.

2. Access the device via webUI

   • Follow instructions under “Connected to Local Data Network or PC.”

3. Remove HDMI cable from Encoder devices.

4. Open JADConfig.

5. Select Firmware Update Only → Standalone.

6. Choose your Ethernet adapter and click Next.

7. The device will appear once scanned. Select it and click Next.

8. Choose the appropriate firmware from the dropdown menu.

   • Leave "Force Firmware Update" unchecked.

9. Click Next to begin the update.

   • Duration: Approximately 8 minutes per device.

   • Do not interrupt the update. An interrupted update will render the device inoperable and require Debrick recovery.

   • If prompted, select "Do Not Change" when asked to choose between 2G or 3G mode.

Incremental Update Instructions

For Devices Running Firmware A1.2 to A1.34

Before you can update the device to the newest firmware, an incremental update - A1.35 - must be loaded first.

1. Download the A1.35 firmware files.

2. Access the device via webUI

3. Upload the appropriate A1.35.bin file:

   • Encoder: JAP-2G-TX-A1-35-FIRMWARE.bin

   • Decoder: JAP-2G-RX-A1-35-FIRMWARE.bin

4. Wait for the upload to complete.

   • Do not interrupt the update.

5. Power cycle the device:

   • Unplug power → Wait 5 seconds → Reconnect power

6. Reaccess the webUI to confirm the device is now running A1.35.

7. Proceed with your desired firmware update using the WebUI method.

For Devices with Unlisted Firmware (Below A1.2)

Devices without a version listed in the webUI require two incremental updates.

1. Submit a support ticket via the "Just Add Power website" to request the A1.2 STEP1 firmware files.

2. Access the device via webUI

   • Follow the "Firmware Update with webUI" instructions and perform the steps until you reach the webUI of the device.

3. Upload the appropriate STEP1.bin file:

   • Encoder: JAP-2G-TX-STEP1.bin

   • Decoder: JAP-2G-RX-STEP1.bin

4. Wait for the upload to complete.

   • Do not interrupt the update.

5. Power cycle the unit.

   • Unplug power → Wait 5 seconds → Reconnect power

6. Reaccess the webUI.

   • NOTE:If using a non-Chromium browser (e.g., Safari or Internet Explorer), the old firmware version may still display. Open the page in Incognito Mode to clear the cache.

7. Upload the A1.35.bin file using the webUI.

   • Encoder: JAP-2G-TX-A1-35-FIRMWARE.bin

   • Decoder: JAP-2G-RX-A1-35-FIRMWARE.bin

8. Wait for the upload to complete.

   • Do not interrupt the update.

9. Power cycle the unit again.

10. Confirm the firmware version is now A1.35.

11. Proceed with your desired firmware update using the webUI method.
