Upload Switch Configuration to TP-Link SG34XX and TL-SG34XX Series

Overview

Use this procedure to upload an AMP Discovery Configuration file or restore a switch configuration to a compatible replacement switch.

For AMP Standardized Configuration systems, first confirm that the switch model and hardware version are supported and that the installed firmware meets the requirements below.

Support for SG3428XMPP and SG3452XMPP switches was introduced in AMP 2.0.1.

Minimum Switch Firmware

Match the complete switch model and hardware version to the minimum firmware requirements below. Support for SG3428XMPP and SG3452XMPP was introduced in AMP 2.0.1.

Check maximum firmware limits before updating: Some TP-Link switches also have maximum supported firmware versions due to a known issue affecting matrix switching and AMP service functions. Review the maximum supported firmware versions and switching lockout workaround before changing firmware.

TP-Link model names: Models with and without the TL- prefix are different hardware models. Match the complete model name and hardware version exactly as shown in the table.

Identify Hardware Version

Use either method to identify the switch hardware version:

  • Check the model number and hardware version on the label on the bottom of the switch.

  • In the switch webUI, go to System > System Info > System Summary.

Walkthrough

  1. Open the switch webUI using its current IP address and log in.

    • Default IP address: 192.168.0.1 /24, or an address assigned by DHCP on your network.
    • Default username/password: admin/admin.
    • Just Add Power configuration files, including the AMP VLAN Discovery Configuration file, use admin/tplink.
  2. Check the switch model, hardware version, and installed firmware against the supported firmware requirements, including any maximum version limit.

  3. If a firmware change is required:

Firmware must match the exact switch model and hardware version. Uploading incorrect firmware could damage the switch. Select a version that meets both the minimum requirement and any applicable maximum limit.

    1. Download the appropriate firmware from the TP-Link website.
    2. Go to System Tools > Firmware Upgrade and upload the firmware file. Select Reboot the switch using the backup image after upgrading is completed.

    3. After the switch reboots, log in and confirm that the expected firmware version is running.
  4. Go to System Tools > Restore Config.

    TP-Link Restore Config page

  5. In the Configuration File field, click Browse and select the configuration file.
  6. Select Reboot the switch to validate the configuration after the restore is complete.
  7. Click Import to upload the configuration.

  8. Wait for the switch to reboot with the uploaded configuration, then continue the AMP workflow or verify operation of the restored system.

Troubleshooting: No Matrix Control

Symptoms

  • Matrix control through the switching driver does not work, even though the driver is configured correctly.
  • One or more AMP Standardized Configuration functions do not work properly:

    • Test Switching
    • Read System
    • Add Device On-Site
    • Edit Switch IP
    • Update Only

Possible Causes

  • The switch was below the minimum supported firmware version when AMP configured the system.
  • The switch is running firmware above an applicable maximum supported version.

Solution

  1. Compare the installed firmware with the supported firmware requirements. If it exceeds a maximum limit, follow the switching lockout guidance linked in that section.
  2. If the switch was configured while below the minimum firmware requirement, update it to a supported version, then re-upload the final switch configuration.
  3. Locate the final configuration file:

    • If you have the PC that originally ran AMP, open AMP and select File > Open Projects Folder. Open the project folder, then Switch Configs. The final configuration filename begins with jp.
    • If you do not have the original PC or its project files, the original workflow requires you to execute Configure again from the beginning to generate the final configuration file.
  4. Use the upload procedure to load the final jp configuration file.
  5. After the switch reboots, verify matrix switching and the affected AMP functions.
